What must I check before my first day?

One-minute summary

A useful listing is only a starting point. Compare the role, agree the real conditions and obtain any required permission before work begins.

Applying is not permission to work. Do not put passport / residence-card numbers, permits, grades or bank details in your application. This service does not issue permission or submit immigration applications.

  1. Compare the work

Read the actual duties, pay, schedule and location. Check what is unknown; campus proximity does not mean university endorsement.

  2. Apply and discuss conditions

You can prepare an application before work permission is obtained. Agree the actual conditions with the employer; applying is not permission to start work.

  3. Prepare documents and confirm permission

Ask your school's international-student office and immigration about your specific status and job. Obtain any required permission before starting. D-2 / D-4 subtypes, study status and work conditions matter; there is no universal weekly-hours allowance here.

  4. Start within the confirmed conditions

Keep your contract and check with the responsible office before changing work conditions. Internship, remote work or English-language work is not automatically permitted.

Questions to ask the employer
  • What are the work days, breaks, maximum weekly hours and exam-period options?
  • Who is the actual employer, and where will I work?
  • Can you provide the contract and business-registration copy and cooperate with any required confirmation form?
  • Can we arrange a start date after any required permission?
